about the challenge
It's time for action! Together we want to plant 1,000,000 trees and are directing our focus and all our energy towards this goal. Join us on the path of the 1 Million Trees Challenge.
Be part of it, every tree counts.
Together with our cooperation partners, we have already achieved the following.
113.286 trees planted

Reforesting 500 trees will offset nearly 14 tons of CO2 per year. The annual per capita gross CO2 emission in Europe is about 14 tons of CO2. This includes everything we do, buy, consume and buy from abroad:
• 25% for food
• 25% for housing and accommodation
• 27% for mobility
• 23% for everything else (consumption, services etc.)
The CO2 footprint per German citizen is almost 14 tons per year. The reason is easily explained: Germany has a high standard of living and can therefore afford more than others.
In Europe, we have been able to reduce CO2 emissions by just over 20% from 1990 to the present, but worldwide they have increased. Germany was even able to reduce its CO2 emissions by almost a third during this period. In general, the East of Europe has reduced a high percentage compared to the West, mainly because of the collapse of the Eastern Bloc at the end of the 1990s, which brought unprecedented deindustrialization. Thus, millions of jobs in industry were lost with reunification. Like almost all industrialized nations, Germany’s domestic CO2 emissions have also decreased, but the target of reducing CO2 emissions by 20% by 2020 has not been met. What we have in common is that more than half of our CO2 footprint is now generated abroad, thus we export a large part of our CO2 footprint in the production of goods and services manufactured for industrialized countries. Did you know:
• that the global average per capita CO2 emissions are about 8 tons per year?
• that in the USA over 20 tons of CO2 are produced per person per year?
• that in Qatar the CO2 footprint per person per year is more than 30 tons
• that the average CO2 footprint per person per year in Malawi is only 0.2 tons of CO2
• that the global average needs to fall to 2.1 tons of CO2 per year per capita in order to reach the 1.5 degree target
The largest CO2 emitting countries by share of global CO2 emissions are:
• China approx. 28%
• USA approx. 16.%
• India approx. 6%
• Russia approx. 4.5%
• Japan approx. 3.5%
• Germany ca. 2%
If all people had the same standard of living as we Europeans would need the resources of 2 planets. At the top of the consumers are the United States of America with the United Arab Emirates with extrapolated 4 ½ planets. Moldova, Malawi and Afghanistan, among others, get by with fewer of our planet’s resources.
